How do I brush my dog between grooms?
This depends on the coat type and length. Short coated furbabies can be brushed or a furminator can be used to remove dead hair daily. For medium to long coats, you can use a slicker brush or metal comb with wide teeth, Parting the hair in on small area at a time will help eliminate matts. Continue through out the coat. The best way to comb a dog is to start near the base of the tail pushing the hair towards to head and combing one piece at a time.
If you cannot see the skin when parting the hair there is matting there.
Longer parts such as the ears and tail should always be combed. These spots are the most likely to have matts.
I will remove matts, gently and slowly, preventing any discomfort to your pet. Severely matted furbabies will take more time and may occur further costing to the groom. Pre brushing your pet and de-matting before coming to the salon will forfeit this cost.
The best way to prevent matting is to always comb you dog after getting wet and have a tidy up between grooms as the groomer can brush your dog properly and bath it without it matting.
We are here to make sure your pet goes home looking and feeling a million dollars.
Why should I get my dog groomed?
There are many reasons.
The groomer is one of the only people in your pets life that looks all over the pet and can notice lumps, grass seeds, ear infections, nail infections, bad skin etc. during a groom . A regular groom keeps your pet feeling and looking comfortable. A matted coat becomes painful and a great place for bacteria and fleas to grow. Nails should be clipped regularly, ears should be cleaned regularly and the skin should be clean and able to breathe as it is the biggest organ of the body
How often does my dog need grooming?
That depends on the breed of dog. If your dog is medium to long hair it is recommended that your dog be groomed every 4 to 6 weeks. If your dog is short hair it must be bathed no less than once every month and no more that once a fortnight. For proper upkeep of a long hair coat, to prevent shaving off when matted, a dog should have a tidy up between grooms monthly. We offer this service. As an owner it is your responsibility for all of these important things to be looked after- The nails must be clipped every 2 months, the coat must be washed no more than fortnightly, the anal glands must be expressed every 2-4 months and the ears must be cleaned regularly. If you have a long coated breed you must look after it by combing as often as possible, recommended at least 3 times a week. Double coated breeds: Should have a full professional brush out 4 times a year and should have a bath and blowdry to remove excess hair every 4 weeks.

Most pets even end up enjoying the process.

What is the difference between styling and clipping?
Cost of services Most groomers clip. This entails using a clipper and several sized blades. The clipper is run over the dog, hopefully making the fur all the same length. Most of the time the pet will look scruffy. This type of grooming is quick and easy and keeps the pet cool and short for summer. This type of groom is also easy for the owner to keep clean and doesn’t require much maintenance.
Styling is what I love to do. I can still have a pet short and easy to maintain. BUT, with a style that makes your furbaby look cute, elegant and fashionable. Hence, the name Short N Fluffy. I love to create a look to suit each pet. Beit, short body and lovely strong fluffy legs with a cute teddy bear face. Or tiny poodle feet with strong pajama legs. Most of my grooming is done with scissors and not clippers. I love the looks I can create.
